BAUER Egypt S.A.E., a subsidiary of BAUER Spezialtiefbau GmbH, is spearheading specialist foundation works for the new Giza Station on Cairo Metro Line 4, set to become one of North Africa’s deepest metro stations at 81 meters. Commissioned by Orascom Construction PLC, the project is being executed under tight site conditions and a demanding schedule.
Work began in November 2024 and is expected to conclude by December 2025. The scope includes 209 diaphragm wall panels and 20 barrettes, totaling around 49,000m² of diaphragm walls and 7,400m² of barrettes. A BAUER MC 96 duty-cycle crane is in operation, with construction ongoing in double shifts, six days a week.
The project presents significant logistical challenges, including restricted space and simultaneous tunnel boring operations at different depths—a first in Egypt. Once complete, the 5,543m² station will play a key role in advancing Cairo’s modern urban transit network.
