Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - MAN Truck & Bus has secured the biggest bus contract in Deutsche Bahn history, with a framework agreement to deliver over 3,000 city and intercity buses between 2027 and 2032.
The agreement includes the MAN Lion's City, MAN Lion's City E, and MAN Lion's Intercity LE models, with a significant chunk of the fleet becoming totally electric, highlighting Germany's transition toward lower-emission public transportation.
The framework agreement enables Deutsche Bahn to purchase a combination of diesel, hybrid, and battery-electric buses to satisfy various operating needs. Electric buses will be prioritized for urban routes, with low-entry intercity buses supporting regional services.
The trucks will be operated across Germany by Deutsche Bahn's regional transport business, DB Regio AG.
MAN and Deutsche Bahn have collaborated since 2010, delivering almost 5,000 buses over the last 15 years. The new contract considerably broadens the collaboration and strengthens long-term investment in sustainable public transportation.
