
Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - Abu Dhabi Mobility, the Integrated Transport Centre, has joined forces with the Emirati technology firm LUMO to begin the first trial of autonomous public transport bus in the Middle East and North Africa in Abu Dhabi, with assistance from the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council.
Building on a relationship that started between both parties during GITEX Global 2025, the effort seeks to accelerate the adoption of smart mobility and autonomous transportation technology in the emirate.
During recent conversations, Abu Dhabi Mobility and LUMO have analyzed worldwide best practices and discussed potential pilot projects and technical research that might help the deployment of autonomous public transport systems.
The initiative is part of a broader smart mobility agenda for Abu Dhabi, which seeks to see autonomous and smart transport make up 25% of all travels in the emirate by 2040.
The autonomous bus demonstration was a significant step forward in the development of artificial intelligence and autonomous technology to public transport operations to assist increase efficiency, sustainability and passenger mobility.
