UAE Backs $3 Billion Boring Company Funding Round As 150km Tunnel Expansion Planned

Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - The United Arab Emirates and affiliated investment companies led a $3 billion Series D fundraising round in The Boring Company, bolstering ambitions for a massive extension of subterranean transportation infrastructure throughout the nation.

Elon Musk's tunneling firm is valued at $23 billion because of the investment, which is anticipated to speed a UAE cooperation spanning more than 150 kilometers. The proposed network is independent from the already granted Dubai Loop project.

The Boring Company has already signed a building contract with Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority for the 6.4km pilot phase of Dubai Loop, which includes four stations. Construction is set to begin in late 2026, with precast tunnel parts currently in production.

The new investment considerably expands the company's UAE aspirations beyond the original Dubai project. The Boring Company said that the cash will help the large-scale development of subterranean infrastructure across the Emirates, albeit the sites and delivery timelines for the extra 150km network have yet to be disclosed.

The Prufrock tunnel boring machines, which are intended to launch and recover without the need for big launch pits and cranes, will be key to the development. The most recent machines also have automated tunnel lining installation and remotely monitored activities.

Human Capital, Vy Capital, Valor Equity Partners, Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Temasek, Shamal Holding, and Baron Capital were also among the investors in the investment round. The proceeds will be utilized to increase engineering, operations, and manufacturing capacity, as well as to expedite The Boring Company's tunneling and machine development projects.
