Kapsch TrafficCom Secures Tunnel Management Contract In Sharjah

Kapsch TrafficCom has been awarded a major contract by the Sharjah Roads & Transport Authority (SRTA) to implement and maintain tunnel management systems for five key tunnels in the Emirate of Sharjah. The project, spanning five years, includes three years of delivery and two years of maintenance, with a contract value in the double-digit millions.

The tunnels, including the 2.7 km Al Multaqa—the longest covered tunnel in the Middle East—connect Khorfakkan to Sharjah, significantly reducing travel time through the Hajar Mountains. The upgrade aims to improve safety, traffic efficiency, and air quality.

The project includes advanced systems such as traffic management, fire safety, CCTV surveillance, SCADA integration, and emergency communication. A future integration of AI technologies is also planned to further enhance real-time monitoring and response capabilities.
