DP World Adds Direct Asia Service At Ecuador’s Posorja Port

Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - DP World has expanded its direct Asia shipping service to the Port of Posorja in Ecuador, expanding economic ties between South America and important Asian markets.

The weekly AX4 service, operated by Ocean Network Express (ONE) and Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM), provides transit durations of around 21 days, and eliminates the need to route goods via intermediate transshipment ports.

Posorja's third direct Asia service will use container boats with capacity of more than 8,000 TEU. Since 2023, weekly shipping services at the port have quadrupled from four to eight, connecting to more than 40 ports globally.

The expanded communication is also beneficial to the heavy equipment sector. More direct and frequent links between Asia and Ecuador can make it easier for equipment manufacturers and traders to transport excavators, loaders, forklifts, trucks, spare parts, and other machinery into Ecuador and possibly other South American markets, especially as Asian equipment brands expand across the region.

DP World has invested around $700 million in Posorja since 2019. Following a recent terminal development, the port's berth is anticipated to be 800 meters long by the end of 2026, bringing yearly container capacity to 1.4 million TEU.

Posorja's significance as an export gateway for Ecuador is strengthened by the combination of increased port capacity and new direct shipping routes, as well as a potentially more appealing entrance point for equipment and industrial goods heading into South America.
