Dubai Deploys UAE’s Largest Electric Bus Fleet

Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - Dubai has strengthened its public transport network with the introduction of 250 new buses, including the largest fleet of electric buses ever deployed in the UAE.

Dubai Roads and Transport Authority confirmed the delivery forms part of a wider contract for 735 Euro 6 low-emission buses, with the remaining units scheduled for delivery by the end of 2026. The initial batch includes 40 electric buses, marking the UAE’s first large-scale deployment of electric buses on urban routes.

The electric buses, supplied by Zhongtong, have been engineered for local operating conditions, offering a range of up to 280 km per charge supported by high-capacity batteries and fast-charging systems that enable full-day operation. Each 12-metre vehicle accommodates up to 70 passengers and is equipped with advanced safety, climate-control and monitoring systems. Trial operations in Dubai recorded a 95% satisfaction rate among drivers and passengers.

The broader fleet expansion also includes 549 city-service buses from MAN and Zhongtong, 76 Volvo double-deckers, and 70 articulated Isuzu Anadolu buses.

The new fleet supports Dubai’s long-term mobility and sustainability goals, including the Dubai Urban Plan 2040 and the Zero-Emission Public Transport Strategy 2050, which target the full transition of public transport buses to electric and hydrogen power.
