Abu Dhabi Launches WeRide Driverless Robotaxis On Uber Platform

Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - Abu Dhabi is the first non-US city to offer Uber's autonomous Robotaxi services. Launch follows the world's first operating permit for a city-level, commercial autonomous service outside the U.S.

The service is run by WeRide, a worldwide autonomous driving technology company, in collaboration with Uber and Tawasul, and is approved by Abu Dhabi's Integrated Transport Centre (ITC).

Public operations on Yas Island began with WeRide Robotaxis available via Uber Comfort, UberX, or a “Autonomous” trip option.

Level 4 Robotaxi deployment without a vehicle specialist began with the launch. WeRide and Tawasul received the first license for completely driverless commercial operations in the emirate from the ITC, laying the groundwork for UAE autonomous transportation rollouts.

With Robotaxis in Abu Dhabi since 2021, WeRide has years of operating expertise. It was the first UAE business to get a national license for autonomous vehicle testing and operations, subject to local clearances, in 2023.

After starting commercial service in December 2024, the Uber collaboration has extended to Al Reem and Al Maryah. WeRide already operates over 100 Robotaxis across the Middle East.
