Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - Saudi Arabia is planning to develop a new airport and metro system in Makkah as part of a larger push to improve transportation and urban infrastructure.
The airport's strategic and economic structure has been authorized, with plans for a facility built to worldwide standards and capable of handling millions of people each year. Authorities stated that the project would feature private sector engagement via investment strategies that safeguard the sustainability of surrounding airports.
Feasibility studies and preliminary designs for the Makkah Metro have already been completed, indicating support for a more integrated urban transportation network.
Authorities are also pursuing larger development projects including housing, healthcare, and public services, as well as sustainability measures like tree planting, water management systems, and shaded pathways.
Officials said the measures are intended to improve transportation, accommodate expanding visitor numbers, and improve the overall experience for local residents and pilgrims.
