Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - China’s XCMG Group has unveiled two all-electric mining equipment prototypes during a visit by executives from Fortescue, marking an early milestone in a zero-emissions equipment supply partnership between the two companies.
The prototypes, which are referred to as one of the world's all-electric wheel loader and all-electric wheel dozer, are intended to accommodate mining vehicles weighing 70 to 130 tonnes and operate without emitting direct carbon emissions. The equipment are the initial results of a framework agreement that will see XCMG provide Fortescue's Pilbara mining operations in Western Australia with over 100 zero-emission heavy mobile machines.
The equipment has been developed to support Fortescue's decarbonisation strategy, according to XCMG. Additional units will be delivered as part of a broader transition to electrified mining fleets.
The Fortescue delegation, which was led by co-chief executive Greg Lilleyman, also visited XCMG's mining machinery facilities. During their visit, they examined additional electric equipment, such as the XDE150ES electric mining water vehicle. The equipment are anticipated to be transported to Australia for on-site trials and optimization following their initial testing in China.
