Iraq Nears Completion Of Subsea Tunnel At Grand Faw Port

Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - Iraq is ready to unveil a 2.5-kilometre undersea tunnel at the Grand Faw Port, with work nearing completion, according to the Ministry of Transport.

The tunnel, which is now being finalized, is a critical component of the port project and is projected to boost Iraq's worldwide economic position by connecting Asia and Europe via a crucial corridor.

Officials said that the structure would improve marine transit efficiency and strengthen the port's ability to accommodate big commercial boats, all while supporting growing trade flows and connectivity with worldwide markets.

The project is also projected to provide job opportunities in the construction and logistics industries.

Despite regional tensions, authorities said development on the port is still progressing and completion schedules are on target.

Ballast Nedam is constructing the tunnel as a subcontractor for Daewoo Engineering & Construction. Each submerged tunnel section weighs roughly 46,000 tons and is around 125 metres in length.
