Dubai Tests Glydways Autonomous Electric Transit System At Bluewaters

Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has shown a trial of the Glydways autonomous electric transit system at Bluewaters, which is supported by Dubai Holding, as the emirate investigates driverless cars for urban passenger transportation.
The system employs AI-enabled electric cars that operate on designated guideways, enabling passengers to travel without drivers. Each vehicle can transport four to six people at speeds of up to 50km/h and a range of up to 250km on a single battery charge.
The cars are outfitted with cutting-edge sensing equipment, including 20 high-resolution LiDAR sensors, to enable autonomous navigation. The device may also remotely connect more than ten cars, enabling capacity to be changed based on passenger demand.
According to the project specs, the Glydways network is planned to carry over 20,000 people per hour in both directions, with guideways that may be extended as transportation needs grow.
Dubai is also focusing on a 2.8-kilometer line linking National Paints Metro Station and Bluewaters, which may link the driverless cars to the city's current public transportation network.
The program is part of Dubai's plans to deploy autonomous electric transportation for first- and last-mile travel, which will reduce dependence on traditional road cars while increasing links between metro stations and significant attractions.
