Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - Volvo Trucks South Africa has begun assembling Euro 6 and FH Aero trucks at its Durban factory, extending its local production capacity.
The move brings higher-emission cars to the local market and represents the first assembly of the FH Aero line in South Africa, joining the current FH, FM, and FMX models.
Local assembly enables the firm to sell the trucks at more reasonable prices by avoiding import charges on fully assembled units, while also reacting to rising demand for more efficient and low-emission vehicles.
The Euro 6 standard is a considerable improvement over South Africa's existing Euro 2 requirements, promoting better environmental performance.
The FH Aero, which will be offered in both diesel and electric models, has an aerodynamic cab design that is intended to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.
Volvo said that the inclusion of the additional models would improve technical skills at the Durban site while also boosting its entire manufacturing portfolio.
