Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - Scania has inaugurated a €2 billion industrial hub in Rugao, Jiangsu Province. Spanning 800,000 square metres, the facility has a production capacity of 50,000 units per year and will serve both China and selected export markets across Asia.
The project will create around 3,000 local jobs according to Scania.
The Rugao facility is Scania’s first wholly owned truck plant in China, making it the first Western manufacturer to obtain a full production licence in the country.
The facility will operate primarily on renewable energy supporting Scania’s decarbonisation and sustainability goals.
The plant will manufacture Scania's whole truck lineup in addition to a brand-new model series named NEXT ERA, which was created especially for China's long-haul transportation market.
Production is scheduled to begin in late 2025, with the NEXT ERA range launching in 2026.
Scania, which has operated in China for over six decades, views the country as a global centre for innovation in transport, automation, and electrification.
