Amazon India To Deploy 1,000 Eicher Electric Trucks

Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - To support the growth of its Amazon Now rapid commerce network across India, Amazon India intends to deploy over 1,000 electric vehicles that were created in collaboration with VE Commercial Vehicles.

Custom-built Eicher Pro X trucks intended for frequent urban logistical operations between fulfillment hubs and micro-fulfilment centers will be part of the fleet.

According to Amazon, the trucks would travel between 100 and 180 kilometers per day, enabling many intra-city journeys with a 50-minute fast-charging time.

The business intends to expand the fleet beyond 1,000 units by 2028, with the first deployment taking place in Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, and Mumbai.

The implementation aids in Amazon's broader growth. Its ultra-fast delivery technology will now cover over 1,000 micro-fulfillment centers and 100 cities across India.

Additional growth markets include Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Jaipur, Lucknow, Kochi, Mangalore, and Visakhapatnam.

As part of their logistics decarbonization goal, Amazon claimed to have already installed more than 12,000 electric cars across India.

The Eicher Pro X trucks were co-developed particularly for e-commerce and rapid commerce logistics operations, according to VECV, a joint venture between Volvo Group and Eicher Motors.
