Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - With the commissioning of its 1,000th autonomous ultra-class haul truck, Komatsu has achieved a significant milestone in the advancement of automated mining operations.
The vehicle, a 930E-5AT electric drive truck with a 290-ton payload, has been used at a Barrick Gold Mines location in Nevada.
The FrontRunner autonomous haulage system from Komatsu, which has been in commercial use since 2008 and is being used in many mining locations, including North America, South America, Australia, and Europe, powers the truck.
According to Komatsu, its autonomous fleet has carried over 11.5 billion tonnes of material overall, demonstrating the extent of acceptance in major mining operations.
In order to increase productivity and safety, the corporation further said that automation is being extended beyond haul trucks to other machinery, such as water trucks, and integrated into larger fleet management systems.
The milestone comes after recent advancements in the integration of electrical technologies with autonomous haulage, including the use of trolley systems.
As per Komatsu, it is still making investments in cutting-edge autonomous and software-driven mining solutions with the goals of boosting output, cutting emissions, and promoting safer operations.
