Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - The UAE has increased collaboration with global shipping and logistics players to boost supply chain resilience, with an emphasis on enhancing the mobility of trucks and heavy vehicles throughout the region.
A high-level conference led by Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi and organized by the Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation brought together major shipping lines and marine industry leaders to discuss current issues in freight and logistics operations.
Officials emphasized the need of sustaining continuous cargo movements, especially for important commodities, while also improving the efficiency of land transportation networks that handle enormous numbers of trucks and heavy vehicles on a regular basis. Every day, more than 500,000 truck journeys are recorded in Dubai alone, backed by a fleet of over 85,000 registered vehicles, demonstrating the enormity of demand on road infrastructure.
Efforts are being made to increase freight flow by strengthening alternative routes and increasing connection via important ports like as Fujairah and Khorfakkan, as well as expanding the usage of multimodal transport systems that integrate road, rail, and marine networks.
Authorities also announced customs steps to speed up truck and cargo transportation, such as green corridor systems with regional partners, streamlined clearing procedures, and pilot programs like the implementation of Advance Cargo Information systems.
Additional efforts include establishing safe land lanes for trucking operations, extending re-export timeframes, and strengthening ties with neighboring markets like Saudi Arabia and Oman.
Officials said the steps are intended to improve operational efficiency, alleviate bottlenecks for heavy trucks, and strengthen the UAE's position as a vital regional center for freight, logistics, and cross-border commerce.
