Saudi Railways Expands Freight Network With New Multimodal Routes

Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - To boost cargo flow across the Kingdom and fortify its logistics network, Saudi Railways has opened five new freight lines.

The lines extend to Red Sea gateways and markets outside of Saudi Arabia, connecting Arabian Gulf ports with central and northern areas. The network is intended to increase efficiency and simplify supply chains by integrating road and rail transportation.

The system is anchored by important hubs that connect industrial zones with significant ports, such as the Riyadh Dry Port and freight yards at Dammam, Jubail, Ras Al-Khair, Al-Kharj, Hail, and Qurayyat.

The extension facilitates quicker import, export, and transit operations while supporting the transportation of bulk and industrial commodities, especially for the mining and petrochemical industries.

By moving freight from trucks to rail, reducing emissions, and speeding up delivery times, the project would improve road congestion and logistical dependability while strengthening Saudi Arabia's standing as a center for regional commerce and logistics.
