Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - Jeddah Islamic Port is boosting its position on important Asia-Europe shipping routes after becoming a significant hub for the Gemini Co-operation's AE15 and AE19 services, which are run by Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd.
The enhanced services will pass the Bab Al Mandab Strait and the Suez Canal, strengthening direct linkages between Saudi Arabia and important industrial and export markets in China, South Korea, Southeast Asia, and Europe.
Under the new cycle, the AE19 service will make two stops in Jeddah, once on its westbound route from Asia and once on its return. The route links the Kingdom to major ports like as Shanghai, Qingdao, and Ningbo in China, Busan in South Korea, and Tanjung Pelepas in Malaysia, before continuing via the Suez Canal to Mediterranean markets.
The AE15 connects Jeddah to Qingdao, Ningbo, Gwangyang, and Tanjung Pelepas, as well as ports in Egypt, Sri Lanka, and Singapore.
The revisions also cut the total service rotation from 16 weeks to 14 weeks while keeping weekly sailings, allowing shipping companies to enhance vessel utilization and Saudi importers and exporters to gain more efficient access to foreign markets.
The expanded connection is especially significant for Saudi Arabia's heavy equipment and construction machinery markets. With significant building, infrastructural, mining, and industrial projects ongoing across the Kingdom, vast quantities of excavators, loaders, cranes, trucks, and other equipment, as well as spare parts and components, must travel effectively into and out of the area. As machinery demand rises, stronger ties with Asian manufacturing centers may enable speedier and more dependable equipment supply chains.
For equipment OEMs, distributors, and traders, Jeddah's developing marine network offers a more reliable gateway for transferring machinery between Asia, Saudi Arabia, Africa, and Europe, confirming the port's larger position in the Kingdom's desire to become a major global logistics center.
