Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - According to the Financial Times, DP World intends to significantly expand its UAE logistics network by developing a new multifunctional port in Fujairah and constructing a new container terminal at the emirate's current harbor.
The proposed project would greatly increase the UAE's logistics resilience by increasing cargo handling capacity on the country's east coast along the Gulf of Oman, creating an alternative gateway that would reduce dependency on the Strait of Hormuz.
The planned expansion will strengthen DP World's current logistics ecosystem, which is centered on Jebel Ali Port and the Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZA), one of the world's biggest integrated ports and free zone complexes. By connecting JAFZA to improved east coast port infrastructure, the firm can provide clients with more flexible import and export routes while enhancing access to major international markets.
For industries such as construction equipment, mining machinery and commercial vehicles, the additional gateway could streamline the movement of heavy cargo between the UAE, the wider GCC, Africa, India, and Europe, supporting more resilient regional supply chains and reducing transit risks.
The plans also correspond with the UAE's overall goal of expanding its logistics infrastructure via investments in ports, inland transportation networks, and multimodal freight corridors, which will strengthen the country's position as a worldwide trade and logistics center.
