Astec Industries, a global leader in heavy equipment solutions, hosted a special Open Day at its manufacturing facility in Elandsfontein, Johannesburg. The event brought together clients, partners, and industry stakeholders for an in-depth look at Astec’s local manufacturing capabilities, with a particular focus on its modular equipment solutions.

Central to the showcase were Astec’s modular jaw crushers, cone crushers, and screening plants—all manufactured locally in South Africa. These modular systems offer a range of benefits to operators, including faster setup, simplified engineering requirements, and the ability to dismantle and relocate the plant with ease. Mounted on skids for easier handling, the equipment is also designed to fit into shipping containers when disassembled, reducing transportation costs, and simplifying logistics.

“Modularity doesn’t just simplify logistics—it gives our clients the critical ability to scale and adapt quickly in fast-changing operating environments,” says Johan Goosen, Managing Director of Astec Africa Middle East. “It’s a smart solution to the real-world challenges faced in mining and quarrying.”

By manufacturing these modular systems in Johannesburg, Astec can offer customers throughout South Africa and the wider continent significant advantages. These include reduced lead times, quicker commissioning, and full access to locally stocked spare parts.

Clients also benefit from direct communication with local engineering teams, rapid service and support, and the long-term reassurance that comes from working with a trusted partner. Goosen added that this approach not only improves operational efficiency for customers but also supports job creation and contributes to the growth of the South African economy.

In addition to the modular equipment, Astec showcased several other key models from its expansive “Rock to Road” portfolio. On display for attendees to explore were the Telestack TC424X conveyor system, the SX600 Soil Stabiliser, the RX600 Cold Planer, and the BTi BXR50 Breaker. Also featured were the GT205 Mobile Screen, the FT200 Mobile Track Cone Crusher, the GT125 Mobile Jaw Crusher, as well as the Modular Jaw Structure, Modular Cone Structure, and a 6x20 Modular Double Deck Screen.

Visitors had the opportunity to tour the manufacturing facility and gain insight into Astec’s production processes. The event also provided a platform for discussions with company representatives from both South Africa and the United States, including members of the engineering and support teams.

“Our clients aren’t just buying equipment—they’re investing in a long-term partnership,” says Goosen. “We’re here to support them from manufacturing, installation and commissioning through to maintenance, upgrades and beyond.”

The Astec Equipment Showcase and Factory Tour was not just a demonstration of machines but a platform for industry collaboration and knowledge-sharing—underscoring Astec’s continued investment in innovation, local manufacturing, and long-term client relationships across Africa.
