Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - As part of Dubai's efforts to create a zero-emission public transportation system, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) intends to launch 735 electric buses in 2026.
The UAE's clean transportation network will be greatly expanded by the rollout, which will be the biggest electric bus deployment in the country. It will also help more general sustainability goals under the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and the UAE's climate neutrality policy.
As part of its shift to more environmentally friendly transportation options, Dubai presently runs 40 electric buses in addition to hydrogen-powered cars.
In order to accommodate the fleet increase, 32 high-capacity chargers have been placed in five key depots, including Al Quoz, Jebel Ali, and Business Bay.
One of the new electric buses, which can go up to 370 kilometers on a single charge using a 470-kWh battery, has already gone into service on Route F13.
Performance testing, including battery efficiency, charging time, energy consumption, pollution reduction, and passenger comfort, is underway, according to officials. Early findings indicated that both drivers and passengers had satisfaction ratings exceeding 95%.
According to the RTA, greenhouse gas emissions decreased by 12% year over year in 2025, and the deployment of electric buses helped save almost 59,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
As it works toward a completely emission-free public transportation system by 2050, Dubai plans to cut transportation-related emissions by 30% by 2030.
