Dubai RTA, Emaar Agree To Expand Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro Station

Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority has inked an agreement with Emaar Properties to extend the Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro Station to support continuous increases in passenger demand, especially during peak times such as New Year's Eve, national and religious holidays, and significant events.

The redevelopment will raise the station's overall space from about 6,700 sq m to 8,500 sq m. The project features bigger station entrances, new pedestrian bridges, greater concourse and platform spaces, and more escalators and elevators to ease passenger flow.

The scope of construction also includes separating entrance and exit gates, increasing the number of fee gates, and expanding commercial spaces to generate more cash. Integration with other public transportation and mobility options, as well as landscaping, are also incorporated.

Passenger capacity will grow by 65%, from about 7,250 to 12,320 people per hour. Once finished, the station's daily capacity is estimated to be up to 220,000 people.

The Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro Station is one of the busiest on the Dubai Metro network since it serves Downtown Dubai, which includes the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall.
