UAE Plans Major Logistics Expansion To Reduce Hormuz Dependence

Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - The UAE is pursuing an ambitious logistics plan to wean itself from the Strait of Hormuz by developing port and transport facilities along its eastern coast.

The plan involves major enhancements to the ports of Fujairah, Khor Fakkan and Dibba, and the creation of at least one new port on the Gulf of Oman coastline, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade Dr. Thani Al Zeyoudi said.

The proposal also includes additional pipelines, rail linkages and road infrastructure to improve interconnections between the eastern ports and the UAE’s oil, gas and industrial sectors, offering alternative export routes beyond the Strait of Hormuz.

The effort follows on existing investments in Fujairah including plans to increase crude oil export capacity via new pipeline infrastructure.

Officials said the plan aims to boost supply chain resilience, increase energy export security and promote the UAE’s long-term positioning as a global logistics and commerce center. The projects are presently under feasibility studies and more information on the timetables and investment levels are anticipated to be available at a later date.

The move comes as the UAE continues to diversify its non-oil economy and invest in vital infrastructure to enable future trade and industrial development.
